Ferns

Aquarium Ferns are hardy and elegant plants valued for their unique leaf shapes and natural appearance in aquascapes. Popular varieties such as Java Fern and Bolbitis are known for their durable foliage and ability to thrive in a wide range of aquarium conditions, making them excellent choices for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.

Most aquatic ferns grow from a rhizome, which means they should not be planted directly in the substrate. Instead, they perform best when attached to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape, where their leaves can grow naturally and create a lush, forest-like effect in the aquarium.

Ferns are particularly well suited for low-tech planted tanks, shrimp aquariums, and nature-style aquascapes. Their flowing leaves add beautiful texture and movement to layouts, especially when placed near driftwood or in areas with gentle water flow.

Why Aquascapers Love Ferns

  • Hardy and beginner-friendly

  • Thrive in low to medium lighting

  • Can be attached to rocks and driftwood

  • Great for nature-style aquascapes

  • Minimal trimming and maintenance required

⚠️ Important: Do not bury the rhizome in the substrate. Attach the plant to hardscape using aquascaping glue or thread to prevent rhizome rot.
