Anubias Heterophylla
Anubias heterophylla
Anubias heterophylla is a large and elegant Anubias species known for its long, lance-shaped leaves and strong, upright growth. The plant produces thick, deep green foliage that can grow significantly larger than most common Anubias varieties, making it a striking background feature in planted aquariums and aquascapes.
This species grows from a robust creeping rhizome and is very hardy, adapting well to a wide range of aquarium conditions. Like other Anubias plants, it performs best when attached to driftwood, rocks, or other hardscape where the rhizome can grow freely while the leaves develop above.
Care Tips
Lighting: Low to Medium
CO₂: Not required
Placement: Midground to Background (attached to hardscape)
Growth Rate: Slow
Propagation: Divide the rhizome carefully to grow new plants
Aquascaping Notes
Anubias heterophylla is ideal for large aquascapes, nature-style layouts, and low-tech planted aquariums. Its elongated leaves provide strong vertical structure and contrast when paired with mosses, Bucephalandra, and driftwood.
⚠️ Important: Do not bury the rhizome in the substrate. Attach the plant to rocks or driftwood using aquascaping glue or thread to prevent rhizome rot.
Please note that leaf size and shape may vary slightly as these are natural aquatic plants.
